- Atlanta made a commitment to 100 percent clean energy by 2035, the largest southern city to do so.
- Salt Lake City became the initial American city in the Unmask My City initiative, an international effort to encourage health care providers to become advocates for cleaner air in their communities.
- The Sierra Club and a group of U.S. mayors launched a new initiative, Mayors for 100% Clean Energy, to encourage cities across the country to transition to renewable power. Salt Lake City Mayor Jackie Biskupski was named a co-chair of the program.
- New analysis shows that cities can reduce CO2 emissions by 80 percent if they embrace three revolutions in vehicle technology: automation, electrification, and ride sharing.
- New York City issued new guidelines for protecting infrastructure against rising seas.
