New Let’s Talk Climate Episode Available: “You Can Do This: Replicable Models for Local Climate Action”
In the first episode of the three-part series, “You Can Do This: Replicable Models for Local Climate Action”, ecoAmerica hosts American Climate Leadership Award Finalist Alternatives for Community & Environment (ACE).
As the first environmental justice nonprofit organization in Massachusetts, ACE has defended the rights of Roxbury residents for over 25 years working directly with frontline communities and supporting them on advocacy, organizing, legal and regulatory campaigns.
Representing ACE, Environmental Justice Legal Services Director & Staff Attorney Sofia Owen shares how she was first exposed to the issues of climate justice and environment and health when her father was running for selectman, and later while doing legal aid work on a Navajo reservation.
Through storytelling, Sofia explains the importance of talking about climate in terms of asthma and reducing energy bills to explain the relevance and urgency of the issue. Sofia also highlights the importance of community stakeholder engagement to ensure lasting, successful solutions.
