This Week in Communities & Climate
Each week we share the stories that shouldn’t be missed. Local climate leaders, the latest in community climate action, and new climate research are all featured to highlight the good news coming out of cities. These are the top stories of the past week:
STORIES
- According to a new Gallup poll, the number of Americans who worry a great deal about climate change and understand that it’s caused by human activity has reached an all-time high.
- This week, ecoAmerica, the American Psychiatric Association, and Climate for Health released a new research report explaining how climate impacts affect mental and community health.
- The report was covered by the Washington Post, TIME, and Newsweek, among others.
- On Tuesday, President Trump signed an executive order directing the EPA to begin withdrawing from the Clean Power Plan.
- Trump’s move was immediately denounced by mayors across the country, who declared they would not enforce the President’s directive.
- Many states also pledged to continue their action on climate.
CLIMATE DAY LA
- Buzz is building around Climate Day LA, set to take place on April 21 at the Ace Hotel in downtown Los Angeles. The daytime conference will feature panels of emerging and established leaders from health, faith, higher education, and local government, followed by a sunset gala and an evening concert.
