Mississippi River Cities and Towns Initiatives

Since 2012, Mississippi River Cities and Towns Initiative has been promoting economic and environmental security and stability along the Mississippi River Corridor. There are 124 Mississippi River main stem cities and towns. MRCTI gives a common voice to those who depend most upon the River, and by virtue of doing so, spans political and economic interests. The MRCTI builds the capacity of member mayors, empowering them with the tools and support to undertake effective local initiatives which attract green jobs, move towards sustainable economies and achieve local environmental protection goals. Ultimately, MRCTI’s work helps protect and restore the Mississippi River as a natural system that can support human culture and economies, as well as the River’s unique ecosystem and wildlife.
